ORANGE BEACH NEARSHORE FISHING

Fins and Family Fishing's nearshore fishing charters feature great saltwater fishing within 3 miles of the beaches of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Our Orange Beach near shore fishing charters can be a terrific way to introduce inexperienced anglers to a conservative offshore saltwater fishing experience. Nearshore fishing charters are considered best for ages ten and up, guests under 300 pounds, and groups of four of fewer. Our private nearshore fishing charters are offered year round and feature trips of three and four hours and rates to fit most any budget. Nearshore fishing charters frequently focus on trolling, light tackle bottom fishing, and fishing drift lines. While near shore waters are not typically great for catching fish to eat because of regulations, we do on occasion catch legal Sheepshead, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Black Snapper, Redfish, and Cobia to eat. In addition to the food fish we often catch cool species such as Triggerfish, Red Snapper, Jacks, Bluefish, and occasionally Sharks.

Our near shore fishing styles and fish we pursue vary based on the time of year, recent successes, wind and current, and the composition of our crew. In winter and early spring we mostly fish light tackle bottom rigs and flat lines up in the water column. From late May through early August our most prevalent style of near shore fishing is trolling due to to fishing pressure and regulations. From mid August through early November we can fish the most styles of any time of year. On some charters we can troll, drop, cast, and fish flat lines all on the same trip.

Trolling fishing can be a relaxing way to fish the near shore waters. Trolling fishing begins with laid back low speed cruising near shore waters pulling spoons, dusters, and crank baits behind the boat trying to attract some of the fastest swimming fish species in the gulf. But don't get too relaxed because when a fish strikes the adrenaline starts pumping and the fight is on! We often catch awesome saltwater species such as Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bonita, Bluefish and the occasional shark while trolling in summer.

In addition to trolling and bottom fishing our experienced two person groups can sometimes fish lines and cast lures. Both jigs and Gotchas can be very effective in catching Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bluefish and more. Flat lines can typically only be fished with smaller groups and if the wind and current are generally running the same direction but when we can do it the results are often amazing. Flat lining consists of taking a live, dead, or cut bait and floating it on a large circle hook in the waves with little to no lead so it floats near the surface. This allows us to fish the upper part of the water column most effectively. We often catch Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bonita, sharks, and the occasional Cobia fishing flat lines. Many times the largest fish we catch on a charter is caught on a flat line. Fishing live and dead shrimp on Carolina Rigs on light spinning rods can also be effective for mackerel and can also help us catch Black Snapper, Pompano, Redfish, or Sheepshead.

Summer can also afford us one other type of fishing and that is bottom fishing. Featured only on weekends in June and July, the state of Alabama enacts a brief state Red Snapper season which allow us the chance to catch one of the most beautiful fish in the gulf. Red Snapper is a hard fighting reef fish that is a treat to get to catch. While Red Snapper are known to have great food value we rarely catch fish that meet the legal size requirements due to the water depth we are fishing in. If your primary goal is to keep legal Red Snapper then an offshore fishing charter will offer more consistent results.

We are passionate about fishing and sharing the opportunity to catch amazing saltwater fish with our charter guests. We promise to work hard to keep your lines tight, poles bent, and smiles on your faces.
